Functional Dressing

The single most important thing to remember when buying toddler girl clothing is that toddler girl clothes must be comfortable and easy to put on and get off. If you shop wisely and select a few durable, easy wearing items that will stand up to child’s energetic play you will allow your child to learn and grow and thereby becoming more independent.

Most toddlers are very active and need clothes to suit their lifestyles, even when it comes to toddler girl clothing. Toddlers clothing is subjected to more than its fare share of wear and tear. Make sure that you select little girls clothes that are machine washable and durable enough to withstand abrasion from crawling, climbing and falling. Keep in mind that even though the solid color garments, the pretty pinks and pastels, are very attractive plain colors show soil marks very easily. Patterned fabric is much more practical and can be just as attractive if the fabric suits the style of clothing.

Practical play clothes to consider are elasticized slacks, jersey knit tops, tee-shirts, sweaters and coveralls. Coveralls may however be quickly outgrown as is the case with any one-piece clothing.Fabrics that work well for toddler girl clothing are jersey knits that have stretch for comfort, sweatshirt fleece for comfort and warmth in winter, and water repellent fabrics for outerwear.

If you buy wisely you can buy toddler girl clothing that not only fits your little girl now but you can choose clothing that your toddler girl will not outgrow too quickly. Be careful not to buy toddler girl clothing that is too big. Not only is big, bulky clothing uncomfortable, it hinders play and movement and can pose a safety hazard for your little girl. Stretch fabrics are a great idea for toddler clothing as this will ensure that your child will be able to grow and still wear the clothing for a longer period. Avoid styles that have a definite waist-line as these will tend to appear too small as your toddler gains length.

Look for sleeve designs that allow maximum freedom of movement such as raglan, kimono or set-in sleeves with deep-cut armholes. Long sleeves that have ribbed or elasticized cuffs will also allow for longer use of a garment.

If your toddler is still crawling make sure that the crotch length of pants are sufficiently long enough to allow your toddler to move freely without being uncomfortable. Look for garments with crotch openings at least until the toddler is fully potty trained. Pants need to wide enough over the seat area to accommodate the diaper. Your toddler is presumably busy potty training or will be ready for potty training in the near future so it is best to look for pants with elasticized waists. This will make it easier for your toddler girl to help herself with the potty routine.

If you are looking for bib pants make sure that the shoulder straps cross over at the back or are anchored together in some way as your toddler girl’s shoulders will not be straight, or broad enough, to keep the straps in position. Adjustable shoulder straps will ensure that clothing will fit your toddler girl for longer. Toddler’s necks are still short and a rib knit neckline fits them best. Toddlers will more than likely have a problem with dressing themselves with bib pants and these should be kept for occasional, and preferably not everyday, use.

Round about the age of two years old your little toddler will most likely start to try to dress herself and it is best to keep this in mind when selecting clothes. The same applies to toddler girl shoes and you will probably find that your little girl prefers shoes that fasten with velcro instead of buckles and laces. Make sure that your little girl’s socks are the right fit – too small socks are just as uncomfortable as socks that are too large.

Keep both yourself and your little girl in mind when shopping for toddler girl clothing. The clothing must be easy to care for , easy to put on and off, be comfortable, provide sufficient warmth in winter, fit perfectly and still look good!!! This may sound like a tall order but there are many options to choose from that will fit the bill.

100% Cotton Toddler Sleepwera

100% Cotton Toddler Sleepwera

Toddler Sleepwear is an integral part of your toddler girl clothing. Children’s sleepwear can meet safety requirements either by fitting snugly and/or being 100% flame resistant. When selecting your toddler sleepwear check to see which of the two criteria are being met and make sure that you size accordingly. If the sleepwear is supposed to fit snugly and you buy a size larger the clothing will no longer meet the safety requirements.

Sleepwear should be machine washable and preferably able to be tumble dried. There are various styles of sleepwear and the choice will largely depend on personal taste. Younger toddler girls can still sleep comfortably with blanket sleepers with feet but the more mobile toddler will probably be more comfortable with a footless sleeper or two-piece pajamas.

When choosing a footed blanket sleeper make sure that it is fitted with non-slip soles. Your toddler will start to pull herself up against furniture during the early toddler phase and slippery feet are the last thing you or your little girl need. Toddler sleepwear with ribbed cuffs on the sleeves and neck provide a more comfortable fit and allow for easy dressing and undressing. Footed blanket sleepers invariable have zipped fronts to allow for the diaper changing routine. As long as your daughter is still comfortable with having her feet closed at night these sleepers are ideal during the winter months as they will keep your little girl warm with no hassles of her back being exposed to the cold. Once your little girl is sure-footed she can wear footed sleepers with non-slip soles. In very cold weather it may be necessary to wear socks underneath the sleeper.

Footless Sleepers are a very popular choice as your toddler starts walking as your little girl can then wear slippers before and after bedtime. Footed sleepwear may be too thick to allow her to wear her slippers with comfort. There are footless unionsuits available for toddlers that are made of 100% cotton and have snap opening for easy diaper changing. Some mothers prefer the snap openings as less of the child needs to be exposed during diaper changes. Cotton is a naturally cool and soft fabric and these unionsuits are very popular as toddler sleepwear.

If your little girl is really fond of dresses, weather and temperature permitting, there are a large variety of toddler nightdresses available on the market. In colder climates these are not recommended as the tend to creep up and leave the toddler’s back exposed. They are however ideal toddler sleepwear in the milder months of the year when you do not want your toddler to get too hot.

If you prefer two-piece toddler sleepwear then there are various of these available on the market – providing varying degrees of warmth. Cotton two-piece sleepwear that consist of long john pants and long sleeve tops. These are very comfortable for sleeping as they have no collars and most of them are tagless at the neck for improved comfort. These sleepwear solutions are ideal to use for potty-trained toddlers as the pants are easy to put on and get off which helps when your little girl needs to use the bathroom at night.

Cotton flannelet pajamas with buttoned and collar tops and elasticized pants are also ideal sleepwear for toddler girls and once they have learned to dress themselves get an enormous sense of pride when they can fasten their own buttons. A bit of advice – when teaching your little girl to fasten buttons teach her to start with the bottom button. This ensures that her little fingers get the two sides aligned.

Soft Leather Toddler Girl Shoes

Soft Leather Toddler Girl Shoes

Up until your toddler girl takes her first steps you can get by with soft bootie style shoes to keep her feet warm and shoes will not form part of your toddler girls clothing. However she is going to need proper shoes once she has started walking. At the stage when your little girl learns to stand, walk and run, she will need to develop good balance and confidence of movement. Choosing incorrect shoes can have a negative impact on this important milestone in her little life.Toddlers should be encouraged to walk barefoot as much as possible but during winter your little girl will need to keep her shoes and socks on most of the time.

Select toddler girl shoes that are soft and flexible and have non-slip soles. The soles of toddlers shoes should not be too thick as a toddler needs to feel the floor beneath their feet in order to develop their balance. In the past people believed that thick, hard soles would support the toddler’s feet and enable them to walk more easily. However, recent studies have shown that soft, flexible soles that allow a toddler to feel the ground beneath them helps contribute to their balance. As toddlers need to balance to walk properly it stands to reason that these softer sole shoes are the better option. Canvas and leather shoes will allow your little girls feet to breathe, keeping her cool and comfortable.

Genuine Leather Elasticzed Toddler Girl Shoes

Toddler girl shoes should be well constructed to withstand the energetic lifestyle of a young little girl. They will need to be tough enough to take the walking, crawling, climbing and falling that they will be subjected to. It is for this reason that it is best to buy shoes that are sewn and not glued together. Toddler shoes that are sewn together will be a bit more expensive than their glued counterparts but will last that much longer.

It is very important that toddler shoes must not only be better-made they must also be better-fitting. For this reason it is advisable to measure your toddlers feet to determine the correct size shoe that will provide a perfect fit. Measure both feet while your little girl is wearing socks. If you find she curls her toes get her to stand on a piece of paper and draw around her feet. Take the measurements of both feet and use the larger of the two measurements to select a size, using a sizing chart. There are several sizing charts available online. There should be at least half an inch between the toes and the shoes to allow sufficient room for movement and proper fit.

Children’s feet grow at varying rates and it is advisable to measure your toddler’s feet on a regular basis as she could easily outgrow her shoes in as short a period as three months. Do not wait for your toddler to complain of sore feet before buying new shoes. Keep a look out for any redness or chafing of the skin as this could indicate that her shoes are getting too small. With older children we feel if a shoe is too small by feeling the space between the toes and shoe. This is not a reliable indicator with toddlers as they tend to curl up their toes.

Bearing in mind that toddlers will at some stage want to start dressing themselves it is advisable to look for shoes with velcro fastening. Shoes that have elasticized ankles also offer a better fit.
